Well – it was one of those days. So much so – that I titled my post Rough Monday before realizing it is actually Tuesday. I thought it was fitting to just leave it as is. #strikethroughdoesn’tworkinthetitle Oh well. Par for the course today. It was just one thing after another not going as planned. My type A personality and over planned nature do not handle that well, and it just simply made for a rough day.
With that being said, I’ve been trying to hit pause this year when I do get overwhelmed with the nature of the back-to-school-with-26-7-year-olds-and-a-new-reading-series-and-writing-every-plan-from-scratch beast. Whew. Hitting pause, though, usually stresses me more so because pausing to blog or to create or to just sit still for a minute inevitably equals the to dos not getting done. They can wait. Right? My inner control freak and type A crazy personality are saying shouting, “nope, not a chance”. Yet, I know in reality that they actually can. Sigh. What’s a teacher to do…Well, when I stress, productivity calms me. Pathetic, I know…
ANYWAY, this teacher decided this morning in the midst of “is this REALLY how my day is starting?!” that I would hit pause to be productive and create (yes, it IS technically hitting pause when sitting down is involved) a flip book for our next unit in Social Studies. I am looking ahead to next week . . . during which my little sister gets married?!?. . . to make sub plans for Friday, and I wanted them to have something hands on for them to do to activate their schemas about needs and wants to kick start our economics unit. Here’s what I came up with.
I also have picture cards to cut, sort, and glue under each flap 🙂 If you’d like, you can grab a copy here!
I love a good flip book, and SOMEHOW this will be the first I’ve done with my class this year! What?! #slacker
Anyway – I’ve hit pause to blog long enough . . .my endless to-do list awaits. I’m a little bit sad that it’s only Tuesday, though happy that it’s not Monday like I thought it was 15 minutes ago.
To end on a positive note. I absolutely ADORE my kids this year. I feel like I say that every year, but holy cow. This group is fantastic, and they made my off day a smile filled one 🙂
Here’s to a better Wednesday!
