Hello there friends! And welcome to a super fun, jam PACKED, Trade and Grade post! Are you ready to hop to hear about some fantastic products and, of course, to scoop of some freebies along the way?!? I hope so!! Let’s get started!
My sweet friend, Marcy, and I got to swap products this month for the Trade and Grade hop! Marcy is the author of Saddle up for 2nd Grade! She has some FANTABULOUS goodies in her TPT store – you MUST head over and follow her TPT store and blog, so you don’t miss out on a single one of her fantastic ideas and products!! This week, I was lucky enough to get to use this gem of hers in my classroom!!
To say that my kiddos were engaged would be putting it mildly!!! This super cute skating themed pack is jammed pack of activities, differentiation, and more to help your kiddos practice measuring in inches, centimeters, and half inches and centimeters!
One of my absolute favorite activities to do with my class is to play SCOOT!! It’s SO engaging and just gets the kids up and moving WHILE they learn – WIN WIN!!!
Plus . . .moving is exactly what they need after a winter like we’ve had!! So, I was THRILLED when I saw that Marcy’s Skating into Measurement pack had ScOoT in the very first few pages!!
Marcy’s scoot has 2 options, too! The kiddos can measure the provided skateboards in inches or centimeters. It’s perfect to allow you to match this activity to your kids’ needs OR to provide a fast finisher activity!
Hello concentration and holy engaged!! I was sitting on the floor with my “teacher time” small group during math rotations when I snapped this picture! (I know, it’s an awful picture….a camera is my next large ticketed item to buy with my TPT earnings . . . second only to Vegas, of course!!! EEK!!)
Oops, sorry Marcy – back to your scoot! The kids were so busy measuring and scooting, though, they didn’t even stop to look up! 🙂 SUCCESS!!
While part of my class was scooting to measure the skateboards, I had a small group with me completing the next part of Marcy’s Measurement pack – Word Problem Task cards! These were definitely more of a challenge and required a bit more higher level thinking, which is why I kept this group of kiddos with me! 🙂
There are a variety of task cards ranging from easier to more difficult questions including concepts of measuring inches and centimeters. The kids chose a task card, and got to record their answers right on the provided response sheet!
I told my kids that my friend, Marcy, made these activities (I always give credit where it’s due, particularly when my kids are all “THIS IS AWESOME” haha) and, Marcy, they give you two thumbs up!!
Her pack has a few more pieces and parts that we didn’t get the chance to use quite yet – – but check it out!!
What I love about this next activity, is that you get to use the same cards that the kids use for scoot!! I know y’all have crippled thumbs from all of the laminate we cut out! – Well, Marcy is trying to do her part to help out!! Haha! My skateboards are already cut, so I’m ready to go for this activity, Find Somebody Who, too!
Using the skateboards and their ruler, they scoot around to each other, this time, to measure the card on their backs until all of their boxes have been completed with the lengths in centimeters and inches! You could even add a fast finisher element to this task, too, having the students compare the longest to shortest lengths, add 2 lengths together, etc! How much would the kids love measuring each others’ backs! LOVE!
One of the next parts of the pack is PERFECT for a math tub, a fast finisher activity, or just a math game or center to practice measuring inches and centimeters – and it SO easy!! Marcy has included PLENTY of roll and measure cards for students to grab, go, and measure in their math journals! How easy, yet GREAT and effective practice!
PLUS they’re differentiated! One set might be all basic measuring to the nearest inch, and another set might be a mix of half inches and half centimeters, requiring your little mathematicians to pay close attention to those units! 🙂
If I haven’t sold you yet, guess what! MARCY HAS A FREEBIE SAMPLE FOR YOU!! You get to try this pack out for yourself! Snag the freebie by clicking the image below!
Marcy is putting her Skating into Measurement Unit HALF OFF THIS WEEKEND!!! You can go snag it HERE, but be sure to come right back because THERE’S A GIVEAWAY, too!!
