Hi friends! It’s time for the Trade and Grade blog hop, again! Before I get into grading the fantabulous product that I got to try out in my classroom, though, I have to give a huge shout out and thank you to Amanda from The Primary Gal for organizing this blog hop and TONS of other fun events that we do as a bloggy crew throughout the month!! THANK YOU, Amanda, for all of your organization, hard work, and fabulous ideas! We appreciate you!
So – without further delay – it’s time for the April Trade and Grade!!
I even have a file folder on my DESKTOP of Angie’s INs, and I am totally planning on incorporating her INs regularly in my classroom next year!
Before I show you the action shots, I want to show you a few resources that the INs include that, because it’s the fourth marking period, my kiddos didn’t necessarily need as a resource at this point in the year. When I use these notebooks starting at the beginning of the year, Angie has included crystal clear and awesomely labeled money posters that I will use and hang in my classroom or, as I plan to do next year (my kids already have one this year), I’m going to shrink them to fit all 4 on one page and add them right into the kiddos’ INs as an easy reference all year long! I love how simple and what a GREAT visual they are!
Another option that Angie provides is coins to cut and use in different activities in the Interactive Money notebook. Since we were using her INs as a review, AND because we do a math rotation/math workshop style math block, we simply didn’t have the time to cut out coins for our lessons, however, there are sheets of coins for your kiddos to use to count and match totals throughout the activities in the IN.
One of my other favorite parts about these resources, as you see above, is that Angie is AWESOME about adding photos to all of her IN resources, so you can see exactly how each page should look when it’s put to work! It makes it so easy for me – a visual learner! – to put these sets RIGHT TO WORK! Thanks so much for taking the time to add those photos, Angie!! I LOVE it!
Another fact that I LOVE about these resources and about their author<3 is that they were created with TEACHERS IN MIND! Angie takes so much time and effort to hear from US! She includes what WE want to see and what will be most valuable for us and our students as far as a math interactive notebook, and my goodness, do these notebooks ever deliver just that!!
Ok – now for some action shots! As I alluded too, I use a math workshop in my classroom. I have 3 homogeneously mixed groups that rotate through 3 math stations every single day. To incorporate Angie’s INs but yet still keep my math stations structure in the classroom, I did some of the notebook building whole group and some of the activities in our small group stations. You will see that I color coded the activities that we used – red was for my basic group, yellow was for my proficient group, and green was for my advanced group.
The pictures will highlight an array of basic to more advanced activities from the time and money INs. Like I also mentioned, I can’t wait to use these starting at the beginning of the year next year so I can work my way through the WHOLE set from beginning to end with my kiddos, because one activity just builds so nicely and smoothly onto the next! It is SO easy to scaffold and differentiate with these IN resources!
Ok – – -Action shots! . . .
Here we are, getting our notebooks ready! Hello engaged learners!! #idontevencareaboutthemessitmade
Then, my higher kiddos took one of the basic telling time activities to the next level – we added an elapsed time twist! I directed them to tell me _______ after or ______ before the given time! We then wrote the elapsed time under the flap!
The set also includes teaching tools like THIS ONE seen below!! My lower level group got to use the clock face and labels included in this resource to add a clock reference tool to their INs. We glued in the face, labeled the hands, and labeled the minutes that each of the clock numbers stand for!
Here are several more photos that show us working hard on a variety of money practice activities! It was anywhere from as simple as “show me 56 cents” to making change from a given word problem or number story! I’m going to let the photos themselves (and their captions) do most of the talking! . . .
Some of the interactive activities were perfectly timed for us to practice making chamge! The kiddos had to read a word problem and decide the amount of change that would be given back, so it gave us a great opportunity for us to practice our making change using the strategies we had learned in our lessons PLUS apply those strategies using Angie’s INs!

I am the proud owner of all of these units, and got lots of ideas on how to use them effectively as we end the year with a BIG review of our second grade concepts! Bravo to both you and Angie for a wonderful collaboration!
